Babies and Children
Babies and children can suffer from discomfort and pain just as adults do. Whilst they are susceptible to the same accidents as adults, they generally do not have the same postural difficulties or tensions that we do. Children and babies tend to suffer from more direct problems such as symptoms arising from a traumatic birth, an accident or congenital difficulties.
Understandably, we are very protective of children and any treatment they may have. It is important that you see a professional who can give you a diagnosis and help you in the best way they can. You must not ignore symptoms as they can occasionally be signs of a more serious underlying problem. If an osteopath suspects a more serious problem, or feel they are unable to help, they will refer you to a more appropriate medical professional.
Osteopathy can help your child by finding an accurate diagnosis and identify any causative factors. Once we have established these we will be able to decide on the most appropriate treatment for them. A child's treatment will be much more delicate than an adults. Their bones are not fully fused and therefore only the most delicate soft changes are needed to affect any change that might be recommended. Many parents will choose cranial osteopathy for their children.
Please note that all children age 16 and under must have a parent or guardian present during all of their treatment.
If your child has had a serious accident, is unable to weight bear or has lost consciousness it is important that you call 999 or 111 straight away.
